Boots On The Ground NY. - Honor Our Veterans This Veterans Day!
We received an email recently from our friend from “Boots on the Ground NY”, an organization whose main mission is to create awareness for our veterans while helping out veterans with what ever they need. This organization is composed of a group of veterans with many volunteers. Their mission is to leave no veteran behind, and they are well on their way.
When we read the email, we all felt compelled to get involved. We are sharing this with all of our friends in hopes others will want to participate as well, who knows maybe this project will eventually spread around the United States.
This year, Veterans Day, Monday, November 11th 2013, there is a special project being put into action. “Boots Across the Bridge” is the idea of Gold Star Mother Hope Hollinsworth Coaxum, who son was killed in Action on 9/9/2007.
Army Staff Sgt. Courtney Hollinsworth died September 9, 2007 serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was 26, from Yonkers, N.Y. and assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. He died Sept. 9 in Baghdad, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device and grenades.
The vision and hope of this project is coordinating with the Mayor of Yonkers to commemorate Veterans Day in a unique way. The bridge will be lined with Boots representing the Troops on deployment, the Troops that aren’t coming home, ever. Let’s put this vision to life, show our love and honor for our fallen heroes. The Mayor considered the endeavor on Veterans Day, which is the day that reflects the commitment of the Soldier and the ultimate sacrifice he or she is willing to make for their fellow Man and their Country.
Let’s all come together this Veterans Day and show our heroes and their families we care. Let’s honor those who gave their life for the beautiful Country we live in and love.
What we need to see this mission through is Boots, new Boots, your old Boots, any Boots laying around in your closet to line this bridge, this event is only a few weeks away, so we need your help. We are reaching out to friends, family, neighbors, anyone who will listen, and anyone who wants to participate in our vision.
There will be a big collection box at the VAC. On Veterans Day the team from “Boots on the Ground NY” will be traveling to Yonkers to Support Hope’s vision to Honor Our Veterans. They will be escorting up the Boots trailer, and helping Hope and the city of Yonkers to see this through. Our hope is that some of you reading this feel the same way we all do, and will join us in Yonkers that morning.
The boots can be dropped off at Boots on the Ground NY VAC (Veterans Activity Center) - 2184 Pond Road, Unit A-4, Ronkonkoma NY 11779.
To make things easier for drop off they will be placing a covered steel drum outside their door that you can place the Boots in, and cover the top to keep the weather off of. Otherwise their staff is there all day on Saturdays and most evenings.
As Veteran Day approaches they will post a staging time to KSU from the VAC, along with a staging location in Nassau & Queens for those that wish to join us in Yonkers.
Have You Thanked a Veteran Today? If not Here is Your Chance.
