Brielle and her fairytale Fashions Wrap-up!

Posted on September 28, 2012 at 3:45 PM

By:James Bernstein

It was the beginning of the evening at Oheka Castle in Cold Springs, where her clothing designs were to be publicly showcased for the first time, and Brielle Caro was anything but nervous. "I'm excited," she said, as she sat in an outside lobby before the show started Thursday night. Fast forward to the end of the evening, Brielle was being serenaded by a pop star at the end of a runway, where only moments before her clothes were displayed by a parade of models. The drama might have unsettled some, but Brielle, who turned 11 Aug. 30, maintained an air of professional cool throughout the entire night.

More than 300 people turned out at the event, "Brielle's Fantasy Fashion Show," held to benefit Angela's House, which provides facilities for medically-fragile children. If enthusiasm and a packed ballroom were any measure, the night was a huge success. Brielle, in a blue dress of her own design as she described as a "high low" outfit, was the glue that held the evening together.

"It really is electric here tonight," Suffolk County Treasurer Angie Carpenter told the crowd. "And it all started with a then 10-year-old girl," she added. Brielle was 10 when she began designing clothing that wound up in a small St. James boutique owned by Madeline Grudens. Grudens still serves as Brielle's mentor.

Bob Policastro, founder of Angela's House, which hopes to open its third facility in Smithtown in December, recalled how 23 years ago his then young daughter was "clinging to life." He and his wife searched desperately for a facility where she could get proper care and still be close to home. Nothing like Angela's House then existed, he said. He offered thanks to Brielle. "Think of a then 10 year old girl, now 11, having the desire not only to do what she wanted to do, but also the desire to help other children," Policastro said.

Brielle's mom, Karin M. Caro, president of Bohemia-based BluChip Marketing, which organized the event, said that the decision to donate proceeds from the night to Angela's House had come from her daughter. "'Mommy, I don't need any money,’ Caro quoted her daughter as saying. "'But maybe we can help other kids.'"

The models paced off on the runway to the beat of rock music and introductions from CNBC sports business broadcaster Erin Sharoni. Later, Sharoni said she enjoyed the role she played. "This is for a good cause," Sharoni said. The models were escorted into and off the runway by the three Caro boys -- Alex, 13, Brendan, 12, and Connor, 9 -- all in crisp tuxedos and sneakers. Among the models was Gail King, Ms. Senior America. One of the biggest hits among the models was Chewee, 140-pound Leonburger dog who in the past has performed on Broadway. Brielle designed a collar and a suit of armor for Chewee, who stepped down the runway, Brielle leading him all the way.

There were dance performances and singing, including a heart-felt rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by young Katie Zimmer, who battles a lung disorder but who wowed the audience with the strength and lift of her voice.

Sports Biz Anchor to Host Long Island Benefit Fashion Show

Posted on September 26, 2012 at 10:30 AM

Where else can you mix sports and fashion but at a major fashion show scheduled for this Thursday night at Oheka Castle in Huntington: the emcee for the event is going to be Erin Sharoni, co-host of CNBC Sports Biz: Game On.

Sharoni is a well-known figure in the New York sports world. Her program airs Thursdays at 7 PM on the NBC Sports Network. She’s also a former U.S. Junior Olympic-certified swimming coach, personal trainer, dancer, fitness competitor, is a certified holistic nutritional consultant and practices the Japanese healing art of Reiki. Prior to her role in sports television, she worked as a trader & salesperson at investment banks on Wall Street for five years. Sharoni is also a model that has appeared in national advertising campaigns for FILA athletic apparel.

She will be the emcee for one of Long Island’s most anticipated fashion show, displaying the designs of 11-year-old Brielle Caro of Smithtown, possibly Long Island’s youngest designer. For the show, Brielle has designed dresses to be worn by 25 professional models. She has also designed a coat and a collar for a 140-pouned Leonberger dog, Chewee, a breed that derives from Germany.

The event is to raise funds for Angela’s House, which assists medically fragile children and their families. Angela’s House is to open its third facility on Long Island in the next few months. The affair starts off with a 7 PM cocktail reception.

Bark for a Cause

Posted on September 21, 2012 at 3:00 PM

Over the years, Chewee has had roles in hit Broadway plays such as “Annie” and “Oliver.” He has been on television, traveled overseas to London to appear in shows and is always on the go all around America, what with one appearance or another. But if you ask Chewee for his autograph, he is more likely to lick your face than sign any piece of paper.

Chewee, you see, is a dog. In particular, he is a five-year-old, 140-pound Leonberger, a breed that derives from the city of Leonberg in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. Chewee, who is owned by Morgan Williams-Avila of Lynbrook, will be one of the star models at a fashion show at Oheka Castle in Huntington on September 27.

The fifteen human models in the show will be wearing outfits designed by 11-year-old Brielle Caro of Smithtown, possibly the youngest fashion designer in the U.S. Brielle also designed a fabric that Chewee will wear. “Chewee loves fashion shows” Williams-Avila, a stud breeder, said Wednesday. “This will be his fourth [fashion show] this year.” Williams-Avila, who has two other Leonbergers and a mastiff, got Chewee from a breeder in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Chewee, she said, is a nephew of an original Leonberger she had owned. That Leonberger has since passed away. Williams-Avila stated that Chewee will probably weigh about 150 pounds once he is fully-grown, but he is as sweet as he is big.

“He’s very well-behaved and he loves children and elderly people,” Williams-Avilia said, and his stardom began at an early age. Musicians Williams-Avila knew asked if he could appear with them on stage. He became an attraction. He has been in the Westminster Dog Show, and he played a role in four seasons of the hit “Annie,” and in one season of “Oliver.” He has now been chosen to play a part in the upcoming film “A Christmas Carol,” set for release this holiday season.

Stardom does not get to Chewee. He still likes his bones, his frequent walks on the beach, and his visits with other dogs and friends of the family. He has never been known to show off or talk, much anyway, about his stage success, Williams-Avila said. “We travel a lot, go up and down the East Coast all of the time. We go to cancer wards to visit children. It’s a lot of work and a lot of travel, but it’s fun”.

CHARITY FASHION SHOW WILL HELP MEDICALLY FRAIL CHILDREN ON LONG ISLAND

11 Year Old Brielle Caro is designing dresses for Angela’s House and will debut her collection at the historical Oheka Castle at the end of the Month.

(BOHEMIA, New York) September 13, 2012. Young designer Brielle Caro has teamed up with Geraci Condello for an exclusive fall fashion show to be held on September 27th at Oheka Castle in Huntington. Both Grudens and Sangiorgio continue, “We are all intrigued by this ambitious and talented young lady and we look forward to helping her develop her talent and find the path she will ultimately take."

Already the young fashionista has garnered interest in her line. Brielle was featured on Mad House TV’s show, “Rendezvous with Alysia” on Saturday, June 9th, at 11am. Then, on July 1st, Brielle and her mother were, on WLNY-TV 55’s “FOCUS” with host Richard Rose at 6:30 am and 2:30 pm.

Local celebrities will take the catwalk to help bring awareness to Angela’s House. The glamorous models include Ms. Senior America Gail King, Live It Up! TV Host Donna Drake, Pro Mod Drag Racer Dina Parise, Miss LI Teen 2012 Catherine Manett, Miss International 2012 Kayla Sulla, Author and TV Host Alysia Stern, as well as many more generous participants! “The fall fashion show promises to be a unique and exciting event,” said Karin Caro, the designer’s mother and CEO of BluChip Marketing, “We are thrilled to partner with Geraci Condello. Their direction in fashion and extraordinary generosity make them the ideal partner for this event.”
